Located in an exceptional geostrategic enclave, close to the Strait of Gibraltar, in the Bay of Cadiz converge the most important flows of world transport of goods by sea.

The Port of the Bay of Cadiz has specialized docks to attend to the different traffics; the fishing activity is located in Cadiz and El Puerto de Santa Maria, where there are two modern fish markets and a wholesale market of fresh fish. El Puerto de Cádiz is the first in Andalusia to market seafood products.

The fish markets have an area of more than 8,000 square metres; they are fully computerised, adapted to Community regulations, and are complemented by the wholesale market and premises for the handling of fish at the service of exporters. The fishing ports also have an industry linked to the sector, which ranges from repairs to the manufacture of packaging.

The Port has also become an important cluster of aquaculture exploitation industries that are pioneers in the sector and have made a strong commitment to innovation, technology, research and development.

In the modern and competitive fishing facilities, more than 19,000 tonnes of fresh fish and shellfish are sold annually, reaching a value of 45 million euros per year and distributed throughout the country, through excellent access by road and rail.

The Port has state-of-the-art equipment and control systems that guarantee the effectiveness and efficiency of the different operations. A complete team of professionals attends all the needs of the port activity with services available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

2,000 jobs depend on fishing in the Bay of Cadiz.
